Kids for Kids Going for Gold in the Month of September.
Spreading Awareness and Raising Funds for Pediatric Cancer.
AND WE'RE DOING IT THROUGH FALL SPORTS AT FAIRFIELD LUDLOWE HIGH SCHOOL
Thanks to all who came out to Go for the Gold when the Falcons of Fairfield Ludlowe took on the Eagles of Trumbull on Friday September 24th. Your support raised more than $3,000 for the 9th Floor Foundation. We are so grateful.
September is the dedicated month for Pediatric Cancer Awareness. GOLD is the color that represents childhood cancer. Thus, the gold ribbon! Gold was chosen to present Pediatric cancer because gold is a precious metal and there is nothing more precious on earth than our children. Before the dedicated month of September is over there will be approximately 1,500 children, just like our children, newly diagnosed with cancer. 20 % of those children will not survive.
With these terrible statistics in mind, fellow Ludlowe Falcon and Cancer Survivor, James Spengler has designed a new High School program called “Kids for Kids: Going for Gold.” The program is a fund raising and awareness initiative celebrating Pediatric cancer awareness during the month of September. The goal of this program is to engage high school students and their respective sports teams by incorporating Gold into ALL team uniforms. “Going for Gold” not only celebrates excellence in sports but it connects the idea of kids helping other kids who are afflicted by the devastating effects of cancer. This program will serve as an incredible example of kids raising support, awareness, and attention to this under recognized population.
Each sports team will be spearheaded by a Cancer Captain who will serve as the liaison to their team and Coach. The Cancer Captain is responsible for educating their team about the program Kids for Kids: Going for Gold. With the support and involvement of their team and the oversight of their Coach, the Captain is to organize fundraising efforts and make sure GOLD is well represented in all uniforms on the dedicated game day. All things GOLD such as Prewrap, knee high socks, balls, stickers, bracelets, head bands, wrist bands and shiny gold swim caps will be worn in solidarity for all kids missing out on being a kid because of their devastating fight against cancer. Although it is free to participate, ALL athletes are encouraged to do a small amount of fundraising to help drive the overall success of this program. If every student athlete involved raised 100$, the program would raise close to 40,000$
All funds raised through the program Kids for Kids: Going for Gold will be directed to The 9th Floor Foundation which is a 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer treatment for children at Memorial Sloan Kettering Pediatric Hospital.
