Who We are
The 9th Floor foundation
The 9th Floor Foundation is an established 501C-3 non-profit organization. The Foundation raises funds to help alleviate the enormous financial burden of cancer care for Pediatric patients and their families.
Founded in 2009, The 9th Floor Foundation was created by Matt and Kristin Spengler in honor of their son James who is a pediatric cancer survivor. James was diagnosed with an extremely rare sarcoma at the age of 2. He received lifesaving treatment at The Pediatric Hospital within Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) in New York.
The 9th Floor Foundation’s name was inspired by The Pediatric Hospital’s location on the 9th Floor at MSK. Throughout their years of treatment on the 9th floor, the Spengler’s have met countless children and families. They were deeply affected by learning of each family’s story and hardships as they tried to survive both the physical and financial devastation of Pediatric cancer.
With the goal of supporting every child possible, the 9th Floor Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to directly contribute to the cost of lifesaving medical treatments through MSK’s Pediatric Family Assistance Fund.
Approximately 20,000 children in the US alone will be diagnosed with cancer this year. 1 in 5 of those children will not survive. While we do not have “the cure” for cancer, we can strive to support the families who continue to fight it.
